I have been lucky enough to be
given a place on the Coventry & Warwickshire Scouting Expedition to the
Caribbean Summer 2015. I need to raise a total of £2100 to go. There are a few
group fundraising events but I have to do most of the fundraising myself. I
will be in the Caribbean for two weeks and during that time will be carrying
out a community project; probably renovating a building for community use (more details to follow). Of
course there will be some fun as well. We will be camping
while we are there and looking after ourselves including cooking all our food
using all local ingredients. I have to carry all of my equipment with me. There are approximately 45 Scouts and Explorers
from Coventry and Warwickshire going with 5 leaders. I am one of three from
Coventry and will still only be 14 when I go! It is an opportunity of a lifetime
that gives me the chance to help others while gaining valuable life experience
for myself.
I will be taking part in three
training weekends before going on the expedition. Training will include getting to know each other, hikes, specific camp skills, community work &
cooking for large numbers using Caribbean ingredients.
